Instructions for the dances at the CIECD Christmas Ball, December 8, 2018

The dances are listed in alphabetical order, which is not necessarily how they will be presented at the Ball. Some of the dances may be omitted because of time pressure or to suit the needs of the dancers. This page is not intended as a basis for arranging your partners in advance.

The instructions given here are meant as an aide memoire to help experienced dancers familiarize themselves with the dances we will be doing. They will probably be inadaquate to get you dancing if you have not done country dancing before. However you need not have these dances memorized as all dances will be taught at the Ball.

All two hand turn with partners (13-16)
Notes:
Repeat 4 times with each couple getting to be in first place in turn. Couple 4 will become couple 1 during the next time through the dance.

The “eeyore” figure is as follows. You are facing your partner holding both hands having just finished the “poohsette”. Drop gent’s left and lady’s right hands. The lady dances forward and back, one waltz step each way, while the gent raises their joined hands and waltzes clockwise around the lady to end on her left facing back in to the set.

The B part is a canon with each couple more or less doing the same set of figures in the same order, just starting at slightly different times.

Note:
As part of a continuing experiment we will be dancing this dance with no teaching or prompting. If you know the dance, or feel you are experienced enough to pick up a new dance easily, please join in. This is a fairly straightforward dance so dancing with an experienced partner may be sufficient, even if you don't know the dance. However, if you don't feel confident enough to join in we hope you will enjoy the performance of the other dancers.

A video of some people doing this dance. Be aware that our local styling may be a bit different than that seen in the video. In particular we will be doing a full pousette at the end, rather than the waltz-around shown. However, this should give you a feel for how the dance fits the music and some ideas for how to make your own dancing elegant and graceful.
